3.1 Charpy Testing
The Charpy blocks consist of a solid cast base. Test-specific parts, such as anvils and supports, are selected according to the specimen spectrum.
The anvils, which through surface roughness and radius can significantly affect test results, are fully precision CNC-manufactured and 100% measured. Single-piece anvils, which often lack sufficient dimensional accuracy, are not offered by ZwickRoell. During installation, the spatial position of the anvils relative to the pendulum hammer is ensured by an optional gauge.
Anvils are subject to higher wear than supports, but two-piece anvils can be economically replaced independently of other accessories. Quick-change adapter plates allow adjustment of the impact point to the specimen width (impact direction). Adaptation to specimen thickness (vertical direction) is achieved by appropriately dimensioned supports, which are accurately fitted using locating pins.
Optional accessories for the testing frame include a pivoting safety shield and alignment units, which position the specimen either at the notch or at one end face aligned to the impact center.
